"Well in..." Faust said as there was a sickening crack. His bone reajusted and his body lifted. His fur was changing into his coat, his shirt, his pants. "I guess I should change back then, shouldn't I?"
He sat down and continued to watch Eve eat. He smiled lightly at her and hummed to himself contently. He realized he had sub-par abilities to transform, yet he did pride himself on being able to retain his clothing while changing back.

The fox snorted, finishing its meal and tossing the carcass into near-by brush. "See? You even change back with fur. Entirely unnatural." The truth of the People and of many shape changers happened to be that they were as comfortable nude as not. It was the others, the ones who could not change that made a fuss. Eve shook herself off, then gave a fox grin to Faust. "Let's see how fast those two-legger legs are."
She stood, bounding off with all agility and speed towards a near-by stream. It was time for a bath. The fox lept over logs, branches, under malformed rocks, and finally up into the air just above the stream. As it lept it began to change shape back into Evelyn, entirely without her clothing. The Change was as it should have been, painful, bones rearanging, except sped up as if it were being played very, very quickly. The result was a grown woman diving into the stream and coming back to the surface, brown hair dripping. Her eyes were entirely gold, her skin with a glow of its own, the sun seeming to shine for her and only her. Fate had been cruel when it cursed Evelyn with the life she led, who knew how it could have gone should she have grown in the joy and glory of her own people.

Faust laughed as his legs moved him quickly after the fox. He missed it only a few times in the brush but it quickly came into view again. His white hair and coat trailed behind him. His grey blue eyes followed the red plume of Eve's tail as he tore after her.
He came out of the bushes just in time to see Eve fall into the water. He laughed again as he came to the water's edge and took off his boots. He placed his feet in the water and sighed. "So how did I do?" He asked. "Did I pass your test, prove myself up to your standards?"

Eve, naked of course, swimming in the stream that was her only clothing, looked at Faust with her too-wide eyes and let a tear slide down her cheek. It wasn't the lack of clothing, it wasn't even that Faust was there. It was that she finally remembered, finally understood that she had nearly killed herself. She should have finished the job. He ordered her though, ordered her to change shapes and live on. Now he was asking her a question she only faintly remembered where the humor was from, most definately not the words.
"Yes, sure," she said, unsure of what he was saying. She closed her lids slowly, hoping the tear had been mistaken for water, and opened them to show slowly greening eyes. "If you will excuse me?" Eve dove under the surface and let the stream's current carry her body away. She was determined, absolutely ready now to hide until death finally knocked upon her door.

Faust had seen the tear, seen and made note of it, yet didn't say anything, didn't give any indication that he saw what had happened. He merely sighed and looked at his feet in the water. He realized that Eve was prideful, that she couldn't stand shame, that she was always pushed so far, usually too far...
'If you will excuse me?' She said and dissapeared under the water.
Eve was prideful, that she couldn't stand shame, that she was always pushed so far, usually too far...
Faust suddenly stood straight up. "Oh dear gods." He whispered, his eyes scanning the water for Eve. 'She can't... couldn't!"

Eve felt that she had only been dragged four feet-far enough where unless Faust split the waters for her, she was out of his power. How difficult would it be to hold herself there as consciousness slipped away? How difficult indeed. She thought of Jean, having cared for her, of Faust, always wanting her to be herself. She thought of everyone who didn't understand her, every last one of them. She thought of the pain of life, the ever-after of death. She thought, felt her lungs as if they were going to explode. Then stars, nothing, her vision erupting in a sea of night.
She should have remembered bodies float. Especially ones with full lungs, whether full of oxygen or carbon dioxide. She had learned this all, learned it in the proper disposal of bodies class. And so Eve's body floated to the surface, and, once there, her lungs, half filled with inhaled water, fought to breath past it. The water, sloshing about in her lungs as her body floated peacefully, may very well do the job she so wanted done, and make it so her final breath was breathed at last.

And suddenly she was on dry land. Faust had physically pulled her from the water, he felt her, he felt what she was doing. He had dragged her wet body from the water and slammed her on the ground, panting for air. He glared down on her, expecting to see Eve looking back at him angrily, but instead she had her eyes shut.
"No..." Faust whispered. "Please no..." He felt his insides writhe and fall through the ground. "You're not dying." He told her. He placed a hand on over her lips and didn't feel her breath.
He leaned down and pinched her nose, placed his mouth on her's and breathed onto her. He put his hands on the center of her chest and pushed. He then repeated the process a number of times. "Damn it Eve, I don't give you permission to die!" He yelled at her before breathing into her again.
