Evelyn obeyed, removing her necklace and laying it aside. She felt her chest, swolen, painful, a deep red would come next, enveloping the areas the silver touched. "Whatever you wish, my Lord," Eve answered, eyes continueing to watch the door.
"Being a druid is more a religion these days, less and less can you be truly born a druid." Another thing Eve no longer did. She no longer visited the temples, no longer asked forgiveness. She resigned herself to a losing battle, one that would no doubt end in unimaginable pain. It was a battle she was willing to fight.

"Why?" He asked. "By the gods, why?"
He wasn't sure what to do. Eve had changed, the Eve he knew wasn't there, now she was cold and icy. Faust reeled from it, from the thought of her giving up her druid roots.
It didn't make sense to him, to do this. He couldn't even look at her. He looked down at the small silver necklace on the dresser, concentrating on it so he didn't have to look up into Eve's eyes.
He heard some birds twittle outside his window and knew that the little spies had followed them. They were concerned about Eve, he couldn't blame them, he was concerned about her too.
His fists were balled in frusteration, shaking slightly. "Why have you given up?"

Eve shrugged gracefully, eyes never stopping for a moment, always watching. "To give up, for me, was a strategic move. Without giving up who I was, I couldn't fully protect you. Now I can, and without distraction." That last bit was not quite true, and a voice deep within Eve told her so. If one of her animals was injured, there was no way in hell she'd stay as she was by Faust's side. She would run across mountains to get to any one of her animals. The wolves were the worst since they were her companians growing up. She would never, ever let one of them become injured.
"If that is all, my Lord?" Eve asked, glancing at him for a moment. "I explained my motives and actions completely."

Faust couldn't beleive her. "No, that is not all." He told her, his voice calm. He was so angry, he was seemingly radiating power, his grey eyes hard and different from their usual kindness.
He took a step forward, his anger flared and the expression on his face was unimaginable. He felt some sort of creature rise up inside him and snarl at her, like a snake or some other evil creature
"Why would you come back after you quit?" He asked, his voice now quivering with suppressed rage. "Even more so, seemingly sacrificing yourself to better protect me?"
"By the goddess of light, why?" He thought vehelmantly. This was definitely not what he wanted. He felt the thing inside him grow and scream.

Eve heard something growl behind her and didn't even flinch, her gaze remaining on the door and windows. "I came back after I seemingly quit because you almost died there, in front of me, and I could have done nothing. My druid's senses distracted me, so that instead of seeing the bolt coming and throwing you out of the way, I saw nothing. I was blind to it and you nearly died. I should have been stripped of my bodyguard tattoo right then, had someone take a knife and cut it from my skin."
Evelyn shuddered then, body convulsing for a moment as the silver poisoning spread. She stayed on her feet, watching the doors carefully, not even looking at her burns. "If this is what it takes for me to finally be what I was meant to be, then so be it."

He felt looked, and felt, like he was going to explode. The creature inside him snarled and hissed and he felt it rear up. "And the necklace?!" He voice now dangerously calm. "What was that for, to kill yourself? You're allergic to silver, you could die!"
"Look at me!" His mind screamed at her. "Look at me you coward!" His insides felt like they were going to be burnt by the heat coming from within them.
He was now glaring at the back of Eve's head. His fingernails were cutting deep into his palms, blood running down his wrists. "You weren't protecting me then, you were off duty! You're making excuses! Tell the truth!" His mind yelled silently.

"What of the necklace?" Eve asked mildly, knowing he was just behind her. His anger radiated off him and splashed over her, running across her body in electic charges. When in hit her chest she fell to the her knees, the pain beyond anything she had experienced in a long time. "I can handle it," Eve said with gritted teeth. "Silver is just an entertained weakness, nothing more. Ignore it and it can't hurt anyone."
She put one finger on the ground and slowly began to rise up off the floor, clenching her teeth against the pain. She stood up, swaying slightly on her feet, but standing none the less.

Faust felt so angry. Here she was, hurt and claiming she could handle it. Here she was, destroying who she was and all that was good about her. Faust almost wanted to hit her for such a thing, the creature inside baring it's fangs, egging him to do so.
"I can't beleive this, beleive you." He said. "I have almost never seen such a determined and strong woman become so weak."
He meant every word of it. He had admired her before, how she was so strong, admired who she was then. Now he pitied her.
It felt like hell's fire was slicing through him, now actually bringing pain. He wasn't sure if this pain was because of the firey feelings within him or the scar on his chest but it did hurt.

"My job is not to be strong in the sense that you say it," Eve responded, staying on her feet by little more than luck. The silver had seeped into her bloodstream by now, urged by Faust's immense anger, and it coarsed through her blood in a way nothing should ever move. She she it burn holes through her very veins, killing her from the inside out. The intensity of the burning brought her to her knees for good, smiling bemusedly as a hole opened in one of her fingers, metallic red seeping from the cut.
She watched as similar cuts opened up across her, metallic blood pouring from them, scalding their way down Eve's arms as she watched. It was so interesting, so easy to just let herself bleed this way. Of course, if she changed forms it would stop, the form renewing her body in its strength, but it was so much easier, so much more entrancing to watch the liquid fire seep from within herself.

"Gods damn it!" Faust yelled slapping her across the face, the creature within winning finally. For a brief moment anyone watching would have noticed the shadow of... something non human flicker across him face and even Faust could have sworn he saw his fingernails sharpen for a moment.
"Get a hold of yourself! Come to your senses Eve!" He told her, his whole body shaking in anger. He had never hit a woman before, he realized what he had done but didn't care at that time, his only concern was for Eve.
He fell to his knees and grabbed her shoulders. He couldn't bare to see this, he couldn't imagine seeing her bleeding, in pain like this.

Eve felt five points and an object hit her hard across the face, knocking her to the floor. She returned to her knees with effort, bleeding silver red from five crescent moons in her cheek. Her eyes were dazed, Faust's words swirling through her mind as she strained to remain conscious. Her blood was fascinating on the floor, a thick pool of it under her, silver swirling with red in an unbelievable dance.
"My name is Evelyn," Eve murmured, correcting Faust for calling her Eve. "Marks and guards should never be on nickname basis, Madam's class lesson 46." She continued staring at the pool of her blood, eyes frighteningly green, the gold washed from them. "Silver is so pretty."

"Please, pull yourself together!" He pleaded, shaking her. "I know you can stop the bleeding!" He felt tears welling up in his eyes.
"Don't do this..." He murmured to her. He could feel her blood slowly start to soak through his the knees of his pants.
He pulled her closer so that he could help. He used his shirt, jacket, even some bandages from his chest to wrap around her wounds. He put his hands to the biggest, trying to apply pressure. His mind raced, attempting to think of a way to make her come to her senses, of trying to heal her.

"Stop the bleeding," Eve murmured, testing the words. She tilted her head, hair falling in sickeningly wet red patches. "Well, you're the mark." Eve let herself fall to the ground and felt more than saw the gold surround her, shimmering in the clinic light. Bones cracked with sickening detail, fur grew in a wave to cover a molding body. The bones remorphed together in a more powerful, completely healed form, and it finally stood, covered in blood, and looked at Faust with big black eyes.
The fox's fur was a touch more red than Eve's hair was, making her look like a true fox, yet not making it strange in color comparison. It shook its fur, blood sailing in everywhich direction before the fox stopped. Giving Faust one last look, the fox turned and moved swiftly to a chair, jumping up on it, turning a circle, and laying down in its own blanket of fur.
"So sleepy," Eve's voice was a soft whisper on the wind as the fox put its head in its paws and fell asleep instantly.

Faust heaved a sigh of releif but winced, in the panic of the moment he had forgotten about his scar, which had, by the looks of it, reopened.
He walked to the dresser by the window where spare bandages were kept. He looked outside and saw the birds out on the branches of a nearby tree. They were close enough to touch, though Faust didn't for fear of scaring them off. "Don't worry," He told them. "I'll do my best to help her." He pushed the seed closer to them, wishing they would come and eat, maybe even sing a song or two.
He took some bandages from the dresser and wrapped them tightly around his chest. He undressed and got into the white bed that he had laid down in just that morning. He sighed again and shut his eyes, trying to sleep. The smell of herbs and steam from the treatment rooms wafted to him. He breathed slowly and let them start to bring him sleep.
