Jean automatically replied, "Call me Jean, please, My Lord." He then nodded in response to the question of security. "We have the lads split more evenly now, half guarding all the necessary doors during the day, the other half during the night. In other words, we are making it as safe as possible, but the true safety lies with your location."
Smiling at Faust, Jean was quick to compliment and defend Eve. "I would not trade your guard for any of the boys," he said, and meant it.

"I know." He said, standing up and looking up. "She's the best there is." He smiled slightly.
"Jean?" He asked. "Are you going to be my secondary gaurd when Eve takes personal time?" A slightly quizzical look was on his face as he looked at the general kindly.
"I'm just wondering." He added, making sure there was no reason to be suspicious, which there was none. He realized that he hadn't met this general before and made a mental note to call him for a meeting later on in the day.

Jean nodded once, curtly. "Yessir, I will be the alternate guard." Unlike Eve, Jean only had one knife with him, and two swords. A warrior true, Jean fought as one, close quarters. Unfortunately, assassins didn't work that way. Which meant that Jean, as instructed by Eve, would take the mark no where. Indoors, a knife might work, but outdoors it was death.
Feeling as though he should tell this to Faust, Jean explained. "Eve said that we're to be going nowhere fast while I'm guardin' ya. That means we stay here til the lass gets back." Knowing that Eve was trying for the best, Jean sincerely hoped Faust wouldn't veto the plan.

"No, no, I understand." He said to him. "We'll stay here." He sat down, somewhat bored but happy he actually had the chance to talk with someone.
"Are you new?" He asked. "I haven't seen you before very often. I apologize if you have been here for a while, I rarely go down to the soldier's area anymore." He made another mental note that maybe he should start again.

"I been here a month longer than Eve, sir," Jean resisted the urge to call her Evie. "Nearly two months." He shook his head, chuckling softly to himself. "Don't get me wrong, the lassie and I are friends, but she's like a little sister to me, and, to avoid embarassing her." He shrugged. "The first month I was getting into the swing of things, this next month I been 'not influencing the mark.'"
"You might have seen me yellin' orders at the lads from atop the wall, but other than that I been avoiding the lass's mark." Realizing he had said more than he should have, Jean silently cursed to himself. "And maybe she was right to tell me to leave the mark be," he murmured softly.

Faust shrugged. "I am the lord of this kingdom." He stated. "That means I have a duty to know those who are important in my castle as well as other facets of society. What kind of lord would I be if I was shut up in the castle all the time, I would lose touch with the people."
He looked at Jean and nodded. "And I have a name, its not Mark." He said matter-o-factly. "But I guess thats Eve's style."

Smiling at Faust, Jean's eyes sparkled. "I know that you like to know everyone. My second in command, Marcus, keeps track of what you need, speaking for me and all. You must know him by now."
Jean shook his head about the mark comment. "It would kill the lass to even think your name. You know, its a rumor that Eve isn't even her real name." Looking around as if the walls would hear him, worried that Eve would return any minute, Jean looked into Faust's eyes. "Bodyguards are taught to never let the 'mark' know their true name, and to just give a common name. Its possible Eve is just a cover for the lass's real name."

"I realize that." He said. "Its so we don't get to know them, a fake name, a fake identity, things like that." He heard someone coming down the hall, he wasn't sure how long since Eve left but if it was her he would be glad he will be able to move. "It must get very lonely to be a bodygaurd like that." He added.
"And yes I do know Marcus, I think rather highly of him." He told Jean. "I didn't realize he was your second in command."

Jean nodded, hearing the footsteps. "Lonely is the only thing the lass knows," he whispered. He turned as Eve walked into the room, looking much the same as she had before, except her eyes had a touch more gold to them. Jean immediately knew why. Eve had taken a walk through the forest. He felt like yelling at her, since he hated her going alone, but instead he nodded to her, gave her a taste of angry eyes, and sauntered from the room.
Eve ignored it as if he hadn't existed, and smiled slightly at Faust. "My Lord, what is it that you wish to do?" No I think you should go do something. No, so how bad you want to bolt out of here now? Just the question.

The lord got up, his black coat swirling. "I think I'll just go and do some paperwork if that is okay." He said with a sigh. He realized how lonely Eve must be and how hard it woul be for him to be that alone. He figured he would go insane, never having a single attachment. It seemed alien, the thought.
He stood up and walked out the door and went down the hall. "I'm sure there'll be plenty of work for me to do." He said outloud. "I really do hate doing paperwork." He did truely hate it,but it was nessecary to do in order to keep his' people's kingdom running smoothly.

Eve followed closely behind, eyes on the front. She need not guard the back, for, if worst came to worst the arrow or knife would be in her heart, not his. "The home then," she did not make it a question as they wound through everything back to Faust's home. No incedint passed, no arrow came flying. They entered the room and Eve sat, at peace, listening to Faust's pen and the sound of papers get moved about.
